Under Garry Winkler’s Globaldale Management, Dooyah! flourished 1986/88 on the R&B scene and live band circuit across the UK. Working with the likes of Fast Freddie and the Fingertips, The Boogie Brothers Blues Band, The Bay City Rollers and Georgie Flame and the Blue Flames.
Venues included The 100 Club, Dingwalls, The Town & Country Club, The Mean Fiddler and The Cliffs Pavilion. They headlined at The Herald of Free Enterprise Disaster Festival and recorded with Stevie Wonder’s producer Malcolm Cecil. Radio appearances and airplay across the UK culminated in Essex Radio’s Roger Dexter co-producing their double-a side 1987 single Love's Where You Find It/Spend! Spend! Spend!.
Gary Thompson and Jeff did several radio interviews to promote the single, including Capital Radio, BBC Essex Radio and Greater London Radio.
Lead songwriter Gary Thompson had previously had chart success with seventies new wave band Tonight. Dave Dulake went on to front Virgo Intacta. 2008 saw Dooyah! featured retrospectively on BBC television’s magazine programme Inside Out.
Love's Where You Find It / Spend! Spend! Spend!
The one and only single from Jeff's R&B band Dooyah! co-produced by Essex Radio's Roger Dexter.
Alan Wheeler from The Evening Echo wrote a feature about Jeff's band Dooyah! signing a management contract with impresario Garry Winkler at Globaldale and recording songs with Stevie Wonder's producer Malcolm Cecil.
"The band have spent a weekend with Malcolm Cecil in the Town House studio in Battersea. The result of this was a 24-track of fifteen original songs with at least four production quality numbers, thanks to some mixing at Westlake Studios in Hollywood by Malcolm over the Christmas period."
The Yellow Advertiser newspaper published a feature about Jeff's band Dooyah! and their touring schedule.
"Since the formation in December 1986 of the present line-up, the band have built up a one-and-a-half hour set of entirely original material. They have taken this out on the road, building up a good local following and have also had some important London gigs to widen their scope."
Jeff and Gary Thompson made a visit to Capital Radio in London to be interviewed about upcoming gigs and shows around the capital with fellow performers The Boogie Brothers Blues Band.
"We like to think that we have a pretty exciting show. When it comes down to releasing records, if you're lucky enough to have a record that is a hit and that people are gonna buy then they're gonna think, hey I wanna see this band and they come to see you. And if you haven't got anything to back up the recorded material with then... I mean if I went to see a gig of somebody I like the records of, it would be very easy for me to be turned off by a bad live performance."
Jeff and Gary Thompson were interviewed on BBC Radio Essex about their new single, co-produced by Radio Essex DJ Roger Dexter.
"We're really pleased with how the single came out. As a live band, you can never be totally sure how your recorded material will transfer to vinyl, but we all agree that Roger Dexter has done an amazing job and we can't wait to find out what people think."
The Yellow Advertiser newspaper published a feature about Jeff's band Dooyah! and their Capital Radio interview promoting their London live shows.
"All capitalise on a live interview with Capital Radio's Sarah Ward which included a broadcasting of some of their music. People in the music business latched on to this programme and will be checking out the band at their live shows in London."
